Ramping up Milton Relief Efforts in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL (October 14, 2024) — The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services has been present in the Southeastern part of the United States since Hurricane Helene made landfall.

 

In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services has ramped up relief efforts across Florida. In Clearwater, a team of more than 35 trained EDS personnel have begun arriving to assist in the relief efforts. Emergency Disaster professionals and volunteers from across the Northeast including, Canada, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.

 

An additional 9 mobile feeding units due to arrive by Monday, in addition to the 3 already serving feeding units, will be providing meals and hydration, along with personnel trained to provide Emotional and Spiritual Care.

 

The EDS team will cover West Hillsborough, West Pasco, and Pinellas counties.

 

“The Salvation Army Disaster Services will be rolling into the hardest hit areas of Greater Tampa Bay very soon,” said Major Ted Morris, Commanding Officer, Clearwater Salvation Army. “Thousands of our residents are trying to put their lives back together, and if The Salvation Army can come alongside them with a meal, clean-up kit or a prayer for strength and resilience, we will be there!"

 

Throughout the state of Florida, The Salvation Army continues to mobilize its national Emergency Disaster Services network to provide mass feeding, shelter, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, and emotional and spiritual care support to survivors and first responders in states across the south that continue to battle with the devastating aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

   

The Salvation Army’s presence in every zip code of the United States makes us uniquely capable of mobilizing from anywhere in the country for disaster events like these hurricanes.

 

With over 7,200 centers of operation across the country, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to mobilize and serve communities before, during, and after a natural disaster strikes. During times of disaster, 100% of designated donations to The Salvation Army are used for immediate response and
long-term efforts.
