Douglas, GA (October 8, 2024) – The Salvation Army continues to serve survivors in Douglas, GA and surrounding communities. Currently, canteens are providing food service at ten locations in eight counties. Power is returning to several of the main cities in the area. However, many rural populations are still without power. The Salvation Army is looking at how best to adapt its food service, reallocate units, and possibly downsize operations if necessary. Although Hurricane Milton is not currently projected to have major impacts on Georgia, The Salvation Army in Douglas is monitoring the situation closely.
To date, the Douglas operation has provided over 75,000 meals and nearly 45,000 snacks to survivors of Hurricane Helene. The Salvation Army is committed to serving Douglas and the surrounding communities. Feeding will continue; however, locations are subject to change.
