Salvation Army Team Serves Law Enforcement and Their Family

It is now day five of The Salvation Army’s disaster response in the Big Bend Region of Florida. People are still experiencing power outages and in need of warm meals. A Mobile Feeding Unit set up in the heart of Perry, FL was able to provide meals for a local On-Duty Law Enforcement Officer. An Officer with the Taylor Sherriff’s Department requested meals for his wife, kids, and his mother.

Deputy Sherriff Lance Buford recalled responding to the back-to-back storms 30 years ago that also brought devastation to his county. His reaction to Hurricane Helene was, “This one is worse.” With now the third major hurricane landing in his service area in the last 13 months, he reports of the people being tired and weary. “How much more can this town take?”, replies Officer Buford.

Officer Buford found solace in The Salvation Army’s warm meals, which he brought home to his family. While he is tirelessly serving Taylor County, his house is one that remains without power, and he balances his service for others with concern for his family.

The Salvation Army personnel and volunteers will continue to focus on providing food, hydration, and emotional and spiritual care to impacted individuals and families.
