The Salvation Army Offers Support to First Responders Following Apalachee School Shooting

APALACHEE, GA (September 6, 2024) – In the wake of the tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, The Salvation Army of Georgia swiftly responded to provide support to local first responders. On September 4, following a request from Barrow County, The Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services team deployed an emergency rapid response vehicle from Gwinnett County to assist those on the front lines of this devastating event.

The team, consisting of specially trained staff and volunteers, provided 175 meals, 570 snacks, and 245 drinks to first responders as they worked in the aftermath of the shooting. The rapid response vehicle used in the operation, generously donated by FedEx, is designed to ensure a quick and efficient presence in times of emergency.

“The Salvation Army is honored to stand alongside our community and our resilient and brave first responders in this time of profound grief. Our hearts and prayers go out to those directly impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy,” said Captain Rebekah Abram, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army in Gainesville, Georgia, “As both neighbors and servants in this community, we feel this loss deeply, and we are committed to offer any support we can during this difficult time.”

For over 130 years, The Salvation Army has been a beacon of hope and help in Georgia. Regardless of the source, scale, or scope of human tragedy, The Salvation Army’s mission remains the same: to serve human lives at their greatest point of need in the name and love of Christ.
