The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities Steps Up to Provide Support to Search and Rescue Teams After Apartment Building Collapse

Davenport, Iowa —The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities Area is ramping up its efforts to support search and rescue teams as they work in and around ‘The Davenport’ apartment building, which was severely damaged in a partial collapse Memorial Day weekend.

Late Thursday, June 1, local Salvation Army teams were called in by area officials to provide food and hydration to dozens of search and rescue personnel at the scene of the collapse. These teams are now providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner to those personnel via a Salvation Army canteen (food truck).  As of this writing, they were set to serve as many as 240 meals per day.

In the meantime, area Salvation Army offices continue to open their doors to care for displaced apartment residents. The organization’s main food pantry, located at 100 Kirkwood Blvd. in Davenport, is open to serve them; personal hygiene items and clothing vouchers are also being distributed at that same location.  Additionally, Salvation Army staff in the Quad Cities are helping displaced residents find new places to live.  People needing assistance with this are encouraged to call 563-324-4808.

This weekend, The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities Area will be part of a Multi-Agency Relief Center (MARC). This effort, which starts Saturday morning, June 3, will see several area social services agencies and governmental agencies join forces under one roof, allowing displaced residents the opportunity to receive a full spectrum of assistance from a wide variety of organizations—all in the same place.

The Salvation Army is taking in donations to support its ongoing relief efforts. Donations of furniture and other household items (mattresses excluded) can be taken to The Salvation Army facility at 4001 N. Brady St. in Davenport. Those wishing to make a monetary donation—which will go toward services such as rental assistance for displaced residents—can do so by clicking here.
