Wynne, Arkansas (April 11, 2023) In times of disaster and tragedy, it is often said that the true character of a community is revealed. The recent tornadoes that swept through Central Arkansas have shown that the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor is alive and well in the region. The Salvation Army, a long-standing organization dedicated to providing relief during times of crisis, has played a vital role in meeting the needs of those affected by the storm.
During one of the meal deliveries made by The Salvation Army, crews encountered a home-bound individual who required an electric wheelchair to get around. Rather than just accepting the meal, this individual immediately thought of their neighbor who was also home-bound and led the crews on their electric wheelchair to their neighbor's home, ensuring that their needs were met as well. This act of kindness and selflessness is a shining example of the resilience and compassion that exists in the face of adversity.
Sann Terry, Community Relations and Development Director, Texarkana, Texas who is serving on a canteen with a crew from Texarkana, expressed, "It's incredibly moving to see neighbors wanting to help neighbors during such a difficult time. The Salvation Army is honored to play a role in fulfilling their needs of food, water, and emotional care." The dedication and tireless efforts of organizations like The Salvation Army and its volunteers have made a significant difference in the lives of those affected by the tornadoes.
It is heartening to see the outpouring of support and generosity from people during times of crisis, but the road to recovery can be long and difficult. The Salvation Army understands this and is committed to helping these communities in Arkansas affected by the destructive tornadoes.
