Water Distribution Serves Seniors in West Baltimore in Response to E. coli Water Contamination

The Salvation Army of Central Maryland partnered with Royal Farms to provide 4,200 gallons of water to residents in Sandtown-Winchester and the Mathew Henson communities in response to a boil water alert in West Baltimore, Maryland. Water tests over Labor Day weekend revealed the presence of E. coli bacteria in the water in a 56-block area. The alert was lifted on September 9, 2022.

Royal Farms donated 2,100 gallons of water (10 pallets), matching The Salvation Army’s purchase of 2,100 gallons to help people in need, primarily seniors and those without transportation. PepsiCo also donated 80 cases of bottled water. Volunteers from Royal Farms joined The Salvation Army Central Maryland Area Command's Hampden Corps and Temple Corps volunteers to distribute water to residents.
