The Salvation Army Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Division Among Organizations To Assist Afghan Evacuees in Wisconsin

FT. MCCOY, WI - Thousands of Afghan evacuees are now stationed at Ft. McCoy and Volk Field in Wisconsin. In order to assist in their transition, The Salvation Army, among other local organizations, is now accepting monetary donations.

“Many of these individuals came to Wisconsin with nothing but the clothes on their back,” said Benny Benedict, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. “So taking care of them is a top priority.”

Funds raised will be used to purchase new items that are deemed to be the most urgent, such as clothing, undergarments, infant needs and basic humanitarian needs. Donations can be made online at https://bit.ly/Evacuee or by mailing a check to The Salvation Army of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Divisional Headquarters, 11315 W Watertown Plank Rd. Wauwatosa, WI 53226. Please write “Afghan Refugees” on the memo line.

“Any leftover funds would be used for case management, as this appears to be a long-term operation,” Benedict said.

It is also important to note that The Salvation Army is not accepting in-kind goods at this time, until further needs are assessed.
