HONOLULU (April 10, 2020) – The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands, in collaboration with Hawaii State VOAD and through a generous donation from Chad and Stephanie Buck, today announced a special Easter weekend drive-through food distribution offering a free gallon of milk, a dozen eggs, bread, and potatoes for those in need. The event will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Ala Moana Center’s Atkinson Dr. trolley area starting at 10 a.m., while supplies last.

Cars will be allowed to line up with trunks open starting at 9:30 a.m. The entrance to the event will be on Kona Iki St., off of Kapiolani Blvd. and between Piikoi St. and Keeaumoku St., where volunteers will direct drivers through to the food distribution areas. To practice safe social distancing, everyone is asked to please stay in their cars. Volunteers will place the food items inside car trunks.

“With more than 200,000 Hawaii residents without jobs due to this current crisis, we are grateful to be able to support those in need during this Easter weekend,” said Victor Leonardi, Divisional Director of Emergency Services & Safety and Incident Commander for The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division. “We would also like to thank Ala Moana Center for providing us with the central Honolulu location to hold the event. Saturday’s event is just one of the many food distribution events we are currently offering throughout Hawaii and the Pacific. We continue to seek monetary donations to support our feeding outreach. Visit hawaii.salvationarmy.org to donate and to find out details by island, where those in need can find The Salvation Army’s food pantries and meals-to-go programs.”

The Salvation Army announced in March that all Salvation Army officers had been appointed into emergency disaster service roles in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, all Salvation Army facilities shifted to emergency response mode and are being made available to governmental authorities for use as quarantine centers, housing for medically fragile individuals, food distribution locations, coronavirus testing, and any other services as needed. Exact uses will be determined and finalized in the coming days and weeks.

Monetary donations to support the efforts can be made at hawaii.salvationarmy.org or by calling 808-440-1800.
