March 28, 2020 – Jonesboro, AR – Even as storms continue to hammer part of the region, The Salvation Army in Jonesboro, Arkansas has boots on the ground. Several businesses and neighborhoods are reported to be without power and with major structural damage after a large tornado touched down.
Major Anthony Baso, Corps Officer for the Jonesboro Salvation Army, reports the Salvation Army property and staff are safe. He is currently working with first responders and emergency management in the field to assess the situation and offer emotional and spiritual care.
The Salvation Army of Jonesboro is feeding 150 meals to first responders for dinner this evening. They will also continue service with breakfast tomorrow morning.
On Sunday morning, a mobile kitchen from Mountain Home, Arkansas will deploy to serve in the affected areas. Other disaster response teams remain on standby.
The Salvation Army will be prepared to serve food, hydration and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and those affected by the tornado. Please pray for all of those affected by the storms today. Multiple locations in Arkansas experienced severe weather on Saturday.
