The Salvation Army is responding around the globe to the COVID-19 pandemic

Atlanta, GA: The Salvation Army is responding around the globe to the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to serve those in need with flexibility and the best possible assistance. In the Southern Territory, the work continues in numerous communities.

In Lufkin, Texas, The Salvation Army is open and continuing to provide nourishment to meet basic needs for the community. That includes a drive-thru pantry, in partnership with the East Texas Food Bank, that is open to anyone by appointment. They are in search of non-perishable food items to help this service, and volunteers are welcome to replace older individuals that often volunteer who are remaining home to prevent exposure.

The Salvation Army in St. Petersburg, Florida recently provided a special donation that helped to provide for the men, women and children in its shelter. The Firestone Grand Prix went on as scheduled but, with spectators barred from attendance, the event’s food vendors thankfully sought to donate cook-on-demand food options to the shelter that could be served.

Christmas toys stored from the 2019 season are being utilized in Kinston, North Carolina, with The Salvation Army delivering those gifts to deserving families with children under 12. The children involved would be celebrating birthdays during this trying time and a pick-up service is put in place for families to claim their pre-packed gift items, with the door remaining open to continue this service as the pandemic response evolves.

In Covington, Virginia, The Salvation Army is partnering with local agencies to identify those in need and deliver food and supplies. The Salvation Army is acting as a clearing house for seniors and homebound individuals who need assistance, building a list of those seeking assistance and utilizing the partnership to deliver food and other supplies to meet the need.
