The Salvation Army of Georgia Responds to GEMA Request

Rome, GA (February 7, 2020) — The Salvation Army of Georgia Emergency Disaster Services responded to a request by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security Agency for 26 pallets of water as part of its efforts to address a health advisory issued by the Environmental Protection Agency in Summerville, Georgia.

A team from The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services of Georgia coordinated the transport of the requested 26 pallets of water, including neonatal water, from a Salvation Army warehouse located in McDonough, GA. The water supplied by The Salvation Army of Georgia will be used in areas of critical need in Summerville such as schools, hospitals, and nursing homes.

According to Captain Jason Smith, The Salvation Army’s presiding officer in Rome, Georgia, “The Salvation Army has a great working relationship with GEMA,” adding confidently, “GEMA identifies The Salvation Army as a critical partner and we work closely with them to respond quickly in times of need.”

“Some people think The Salvation Army emergency disaster responses are only for hurricanes and floods,” says The Salvation Army of Georgia Emergency Disaster Director, Lanita Lloyd. “The reality is that The Salvation Army stands ready to serve when any kind of emergency strikes. And whenever and wherever we are needed, we will always be there for people in their time of need with aid, support, and comfort.”
