Tulsa, OK (May 26, 2019) Oklahoma’s weather continues to create chaos across the state. In northeast Oklahoma, flooding has reached catastrophic proportions. The Tulsa Metropolitan Salvation Army is involved in various relief efforts.
Sand Springs: This past week, The Salvation Army of Sand Springs provided meals and hydration to residents of Sand Springs’ Meadow Valley subdivision as they prepared for evacuation in advance of the predicted flooding. In addition to food and hydration, officers and volunteers provided emotional and spiritual care by praying with evacuees and offering words of hope and encouragement.
Tulsa, Oklahoma: Salvation Army staff and volunteers are now providing meal support to evacuees who are sheltering at the Crosstown Church of Christ, 2400 E. Admiral Place.
Sapulpa, Oklahoma: Hydration and snacks are being provided for emergency personnel in Creek County. Early Sunday storms caused additional damage in multiple locations in the area. Assessments and cleanup are underway.
The Salvation Army is prepared to serve evacuees once flood waters recede and it becomes safe for residents to return to their homes and neighborhoods to assess the damage while beginning the difficult task of recovery.
Major Mark Harwell says, “Helping our neighbors in need is in the DNA of Green County residents and The Salvation Army. Sharing hope with those going through life’s most adverse circumstances is The Salvation Army’s chief mission during times like these."
The best way to help after a disaster is to make a financial donation to the charity of your choice. Monetary contributions also support local economies and ensure that businesses can operate when relief supplies diminish.
