Empire State Division, NY - The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Teams based across the Empire State Division are currently preparing for severe winter weather headed for the Northeast this weekend. The storm is expected to blanket Upstate New York with a foot of snow, with some areas across the Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley and Capital Region expecting up to 20 inches of snow. The storm will then draw in arctic air and strong winds, causing wind chills of -10 to -40 degrees across the area Sunday night.
“Our EDS Teams are currently preparing our fleet of disaster response vehicles to serve where ever they may be needed over the coming weekend. Being this will be a long duration storm with several different types of winter hazards, our volunteers are gearing up for what will likely be a very busy weekend across Upstate New York. Whether the need may be a cup of coffee for a cold and tired first responder, a blanket for a traveler caught up in a white out leading to an accident or simply a comforting word, our EDS Team is there, never searching out the limelight, just to be a helping hand in a time of crisis.” said Michael R. Schwartz, Divisional Disaster Director for the Empire State Division of The Salvation Army.
