Corpus Christi, TX (September 20, 2017) Just as The Salvation Army prepared for the anticipated response which would be needed following landfall of Hurricane Harvey, other organizations and corporations prepared to help with relief efforts. MPOWERD, along with its generous corporate partner Direct Energy, headquartered in Houston, donated thousands of Luci EMRG solar lights to be distributed in the hardest hit areas where power will take quite some time to restore.
“Our hearts go out to those affected by Hurricane Harvey in this unprecedented natural disaster here at home. In response, MPOWERD has leveraged our Give Luci donation program to distribute hundreds of free, reliable solar lights to those in need in Texas through our partners Direct Energy and The Salvation Army,” stated John Salzinger, co-founder of MPOWERD.
Luci lights enable survivors of storms to feel a sense of security while striving to bring about some normalcy. As The Salvation Army is out providing food, hydration and emotional and spiritual care to neighborhoods and families affected by Hurricane Harvey, it seemed a natural fit to provide the lights to families without power. One of The Salvation Army’s employees reported while distributing a light to a survivor in Aransas Pass, a recipient commented “it will make my children so happy. They are afraid of the dark and we don’t know when we will have power again”. The children promptly provided smiles knowing they would be able to sleep with a “night light” that evening. Luci lights provide a clean, reliable and renewable source of light. The lights are portable, waterproof and have various settings available depending on its use.
Thousands more Luci lights are en route to Texas and Florida to help provide a light in the darkness where power is not currently available. The Salvation Army is grateful to Direct Energy and MPOWERD for being a valuable partner in its relief efforts.
