Charlotte, N.C. (October 9, 2016)—Service provided by The Salvation Army of the Carolinas is in full swing in two simultaneous state operations in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. In many communities, grocery store shelves are bare; fuel for cars is scarce. Salvation Army mobile feeding kitchens from the Carolinas, Kentucky/Tennessee, and Maryland/West Virginia are providing food, drinks and hope to survivors and first responders wherever we are called to serve.
A State of Emergency is in effect for both states as first responders begin to assess damage and protect life. Between both states, almost 1 million customers are without power. During disaster, pre-existing partnerships and relationships are essential to meeting the needs of people who are in the most need. Salvation Army officers and staff work long before disaster strikes to begin and maintain these relationships.
The importance of relationships was demonstrated many times in the past 24 hours; in some instances perilous situations. We are thankful for the many partners that help us as we support the community in times of need.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
