Daily Meals Served by Salvation Army Increases as Hermine Recovery Efforts Continue
Tallahassee, FL (September 5, 2016) – The Salvation Army has deployed a total of 18 mobile feeding units across the state of Florida to assist residents with recovery from the impact of Hurricane Hermine.
In addition to each mobile feeding unit having the capacity to serve 500 – 1,500 meals at a time, the teams working on these units are also relaying much-needed damage assessment information to state and local agencies to ensure the hardest hit areas receive assistance.
“As residents continue to experience loss of power in their homes, they’re forced to look elsewhere for food,” says Kevin Smith, Salvation Army Emergency Services Director for the State of Florida. “For a family navigating the variety of issues that arise in the aftermath of a storm, the added cost of meals out can be devastating.”
Since relief efforts began on September 2, the daily amount of meals served by The Salvation Army across the state has increased by 87%. As of September 4, The Salvation Army has provided a total of 6,671 meals, 6,342 drinks, 4,312 snacks, 558 Bibles, 278 clean-up kits, and Spiritual Care to 378 residents.
The Salvation Army continues to provide services to the following Counties: Citrus, Dixie, Gadsden, Leon, Levy, Marion, Pasco, Taylor, and Wakulla.
