Salvation Army Provides Long-Term Care After Tropical Storm Colin

Tampa Bay Salvation Army continues to serve community impacted by flooding

Clearwater, FL (June 23, 2016) – Residents of the Mariner’s Cove Mobile Home Park in Clearwater, Florida continue to contend with clean up and property damage due to flooding after Tropical Storm Colin hit the Tampa Bay area. The Salvation Army was on site to serve meals earlier this month after the neighborhood experienced significant flooding and residents faced loss of power in their homes.

On June 22, The Salvation Army partnered with Pinellas County Human Services, and a task force of other local agencies, to provide dinner, assistance, and information on what services are available to residents to help get them back on their feet. Services included relocation assistance, emergency financial assistance to replace essential items, and food boxes. More than $17,000 in vouchers for The Salvation Army’s Family Stores were distributed to residents for purchase of clothing, household items, and furniture.

The Salvation Army is grateful for the support of Chick-fil-A located at 10075 Ulmerton Road in Largo, which provided 100 Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches to be served to their neighbors in need. In total, 125 meals and 285 drinks were distributed out of The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchen.

“Salvation Army staff and volunteers were on-hand to provide immediate assistance, as well as schedule appointments for long-term care,” says Captain Mike Harris, Commanding Officer for The Salvation Army serving Upper Pinellas County. “We will continue to work with partner agencies to ensure residents receive the care and assistance needed.”
