The Salvation Army’s Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division’s Emergency Disaster Services responds to small plane crash on Kauai
- Shade, food and water provided to first responders and family and friends of those involved in today’s crash -
HONOLULU (May 23, 2016) –The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Island Division’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) today activated their EDS operations to assist the first responders and families and friends of those involved in today’s small plane crash in Hanapepe, Kauai. The Salvation Army provided the services at the location from approximately 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps is located less than a mile from the crash site and, upon learning of the incident, we reached out to Hawaii Civil Defense and the American Red Cross to offer our support,” said Major Mark Gilden, Divisional Secretary for Business and Emergency Disaster Services Coordinator for The Salvation Army – Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division. “Our local officer, along with the chair of our EDS Committee and a local volunteer set up a shade canopy for first responders and family members, served 39 lunches, and provided bottled water.”
