Salvation Army Provides Nourishment During Clean-up

March 27, 2015 – Oklahoma City, OK – The Salvation Army continues to assist those impacted from the tornadoes that touched down in multiple locations in Oklahoma. 

Central Oklahoma Area Command
The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma has been on the ground in Moore, Oklahoma with their catering truck with personnel coordinating with Local and State Emergency Management to serve first responders and those affected by the tornado.

475 meals, 325 snacks and 515 drinks were served to first responders and survivors during Thursday's relief efforts. Major Carlyle Gargis, Central Oklahoma Area Commander has been serving in the affected area. Major Gargis states “The damage caused by Wednesday night’s tornado is heart-breaking as it brings back memories of the devastation two years ago. We are honored to again provide nourishment to the first responders and storm survivors as well as spiritual and emotional care.”

The Salvation Army is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday at 312 N Janeway Avenue in Moore with donations from Krispy Kreme, Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Chick-fil-A.

Tulsa Metropolitan Area Command
The Salvation Army canteen (mobile feeding unit) was out all night serving first responders, volunteers and survivors and continues to serve meals throughout the day. The canteen is stationed at the River Oaks Mobile Home Park for resident, first responder and volunteer feeding.

The Salvation Army is prepared to provide care and compassion to those affected by storms as well as provide food and hydration for as long as necessary.  Debbie Davis, who lost her mobile home in the heavily hit Sand Springs park and was in need of physical and spiritual help said “When I got here this morning and saw that The Salvation Army was here, I knew that we would get help. God spared me, my husband, and our two dogs. We were able to save a few things that were precious to us. The Salvation Army has prayed with me that we will be okay as we rebuild. I am so thankful for the Salvation Army.”
