Omaha, Neb., (January 21, 2014)—In the wake of a fatal industrial accident in south central Omaha on Monday, The Salvation Army responded immediately providing relief and respite to first responders and plant workers at the International Nutrition plant. The Army's emergency disaster services team was called into service by the Omaha Fire Department to provide relief after the fatal industrial accident on Monday morning.

"The Salvation Army was on the scene by 12:00 PM yesterday. Our number one concern is always for the safety of the first responders and for employees, friends and family on the scene following the explosion. We are coordinating efforts with the Fire Department. Our disaster response team provided warm drinks and prayer to workers and those awaiting news of their loved ones. We ask for the public to pray for those involved,” said John Kuzma, director of Emergency Disaster Services.

Tuesday, Salvation Army volunteers served lunch to first responders and others on the scene near the International Nutrition plant. On the scene of a disaster, The Salvation Army's goal is to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of both the victims and the rescue workers - whatever those needs might be. One hundred percent of contributions made to The Salvation Army's disaster relief fund go directly to assist those in need. For more information or to donate, go to www.givesalvationarmy.org.
