Feed The Children Donates Food Boxes to Oklahoma Storm Survivors

Oklahoma City (June 8, 2013) - Feed The Children has donated 960 boxes of food to The Salvation Army, to be used in feeding Oklahomans who were affected by tornados that twisted through the area late last month. Each box, weighing 25 lbs., is estimated to sustain a family of four for up to seven days. The donation comes at a critical time as The Salvation Army is currently serving between 200-300 families a day out of the Emergency Relief Distribution Center.

“We know the people from Oklahoma City are very thankful for the nourishment they are getting from Feed The Children. They are not really sure what they’re going to get but once they come through they really get a sense of hope and joy when they see what we are able to offer to them,” says Lance Rocks, Warehouse Manager for The Salvation Army.

Feed The Children is one of the largest charities based in the U.S., providing more than 350,000 children around the world with a hot, nourishing meal every day. Here in the U.S., nearly 10 million people receive assistance each year from food and supplies distributed through over 1,200 local partner agencies.

Since Sunday, May 19, The Salvation Army has provided 58,348 meals, 88,858 drinks, and 88,111 snacks, 23 Canteens (mobile feeding units), 4,064 Clean-up and 6,622 Comfort (hygiene) kits, and prayer with 10,403 persons. More than 15, 962 hours have been logged by volunteers, employees and officers.
