The Enid Salvation Army was deployed to Lahoma, Oklahoma yesterday at the request of the Lahoma Mayor and county emergency management. Lahoma is a small town, population around 600, in Garfield County where many power outages were reported across the county.
The response comes after a winter storm impacted much of Oklahoma Sunday through Monday Weather Conditions: The storm brought rain, snow, sleet and some hail with it. In parts of Northwest Oklahoma, snow accumulated from 8-12 inches with isolated areas reporting more. Notable is 15 inches at Woodward and 17 inches in Alva. High winds caused snow drifts of up to six feet. Impacts: Multiple roads and highways remain closed in Northwestern Oklahoma. As of yesterday, there were still over 60,000 power outages. Garfield County / Enid Emergency Management reports up to 9 – 10 inches of snow fell and over 20,000 homes and businesses lost power.
Enid, OK: Major John Dancer, Enid Commanding Officer, reports the mobile feeding unit (canteen) served at the Lahoma City Hall. A team of four served 178 meals, 348 drinks and snacks. They also provided emotional and spiritual care to those in need. One of the volunteers was giving of her time even as her residence remained without power. The team will serve again on Wednesday providing lunch and dinner. Salvation Army personnel are working with State emergency management officials and other VOAD agencies to coordinate services and provide assistance to residents in Oklahoma.
