Charleston, WV (November 1, 2012) – The Salvation Army Area Command in Charleston, WV, is keeping their doors open to shelter residents while power is being restored in their neighborhoods.  The shelter housed 15 people last night, after the Kanawha shelter closed and moved residents to The Salvation Army.  Over 70 hot meals were served and 15 hygiene kits were distributed.  Over 97 hours of volunteer services were rendered to those in need.

“The Salvation Army will stay open as long as people are without power,” said Captain Aaron Goldfarb, Area Commander of The Salvation Army in Charleston.  “Some power is being restored today and we pray as the weather slowly warms and the snow melts, people will be able to get back into their homes and be blessed with the Christmas Season.”

With over 55,000 people still without power, The Salvation Army dispatched a mobile feeing canteen to Marlington, WV (Pocahontas County) yesterday.  Salvation Army volunteers are serving many residents and emergency personnel in the area.

The Salvation Army asks people who want to help those affected by this disaster to visit www.salvationarmyusa.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).
