Woodward, OK (April 17, 2012) – The Salvation Army Arkansas-Oklahoma division continues to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to the community of Woodward. To date, 824 meals, 1, 890 drinks, and 1, 506 snacks have been provided by the crew on the Enid, Oklahoma Salvation Army’s canteen to responders and those affected by the April 16 deadly tornado. In addition to the snacks, meals and drinks, The Salvation Army is providing emotional and spiritual care.
As of Monday evening, there had been 209 contacts made with those needing comfort and prayer. Janelle Mulanax, Divisional Director of Emergency Disaster Services commented “the impact of the caring and compassionate service is palpable in the community.” Many times, as the canteen stops to serve, residents first ask “Where’s my hug?” After conversation and hugs, then food and drink are served.
Salvation Army’s “food for the soul” in His name continues to be the most important ministry and service provided. Volunteers, Officers, and employees have dedicated many hours to the response effort in Woodward over the two days of response thus far. Feeding efforts continue to be shared with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and the American Red Cross. Other efforts continue to be coordinated with State and Local emergency management officials.
The best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors. Locally, in Woodward, only monetary donations are being accepted. Checks may be mailed to PO Box 542, Woodward, OK 73802 or dropped off at The Salvation Army located at 1209 9th Street. Checks are to be made out to The Salvation Army of Woodward / Ellis County. All donations made for the disaster will go directly to those affected in the area. All funds remain in this community.
