Dallas, TX (April 5, 2012) - The Salvation Army continues to respond across the DFW Metroplex area after 11 tornadoes tore through the region, Tuesday afternoon.
Three mobile feeding units actively served in Arlington, Lancaster, and Forney, during the first 24 hours, with three additional units on standby. By the end of Wednesday all six units were placed on standby and the shelter that had been made available at the Arlington Corps, was deactivated. It is estimated that 650 homes recieved some level of damage from the powerful storms.
A Salvation Army mobile feeding unit will be deployed to one of the hardest hit areas, Forney, TX, on Monday morning to provide support to the Kaufman County Service Center as they assess the ongoing situation and serve tornado survivors from their community. Additional units will be available to support similar service in Lancaster and Arlington.
The long-term needs of those most affected will now become the major focus of The Salvation Army's ongoing response.
Through April 27 Albertsons LLC will collect donations in support of The Salvation Army’s disaster relief efforts in the DFW area. Shoppers can select $1, $3 or $5 donations coupons at check out at stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas.
