Washington, DC (August 29, 2011) – The Salvation Army provided emergency help to families in the Fairlawn section of Southeast DC Sunday night who were left without power in the wake of Hurricane Irene. The Office of Washington Mayor Vincent Gray requested The Salvation Army bring nutrition and hydration to homes around 18th and T Streets, SE. Volunteers provided the residents, mostly seniors, with a meal consisting of a sandwich, chip, cookie and a bottle of water.

The Salvation Army is already serving thousands living in along the East Coast region impacted by Hurricane Irene who are struggling through power outages, downed power lines and trees and localized flooding.
Monetary donations are the most critical need as supplies and personnel are mobilized.
