Breathe Easy with the Great Hurricane Blowout!

The Salvation Army wants you to be ready for Hurricane season!

That’s why we support the Great Hurricane Blowout – the first of its kind hurricane preparedness campaign designed to help families get ready for hurricane season in advance allowing them to “breathe easy” if a storm does indeed head their way.

Who created the Great Hurricane Blowout?

The Great Hurricane Blowout is presented by the Federal Alliance for Safe Home, Inc. (FLASH). Based in Tallahassee, FLASH is the country’s leading nonprofit, consumer advocate for strengthening homes and safeguarding families from natural and manmade disasters. FLASH collaborates with more than 100 innovative and diverse partners that share its vision of making America a more disaster-resistant nation.

What are the steps to “breathing easy”?

A family can “breathe easy” if they have successfully completed all of the steps to hurricane preparedness. The five steps to breathing easy are:

Why should I get ready for hurricane season before anything really happens?

When a storm is looming, imagine how relieved you will feel knowing your family has a plan, a kit and a home prepared to face whatever Mother Nature blows your way. Advanced preparation means no last minute trips to crowded stores, being sure that your family knows exactly what to do if a hurricane watch or warning goes up, and the confidence that you can take care of your family’s needs for at least 72 hours after a hurricane passes. In short, you can “breathe easy.”

How can families and individuals join the Blowout?

Go through the preparedness steps to make sure your family is prepared for hurricane season. Also, be sure to “like” The Great Hurricane Blowout on Facebook and follow on Twitter for access to an ongoing hurricane preparedness conversation, access to weekly contests with fantastic prizes and the chance to win a Kohler whole home generator with installation from the Home Depot.
