The Salvation Army Griffin Serves Tornado Survivors Through Hands-on Ministry

Griffin, GA – As day in and day out response to tornado survivors in Griffin, Spalding County continues into the third day, Griffin Salvation Army officers and personnel respond with heart to the needs of its neighbors.

With disaster service in full operation, Griffin has five (5) canteens (mobile feeding units) addressing basic human needs in Sunny Side, Vaughn, Barnesville, one trailer park, and one roving unit on Fayetteville Highway.

According to Major Jack Butler, Griffin’s Corps Officer, “One hundred and twenty (120) individuals whose mobile homes were completely destroyed found themselves suddenly displaced.  Forty (40) mobile homes were demolished.  But we are here to help everyone we can get through the pain of this storm.”

On April 28, from the 5 canteens on site in Griffin:

• 1,600 people received meals
• 1,600 persons were given water
• 48 clean-up kits were distributed

At this point, in-kind donations are not being accepted outside the disaster area.  Used clothing and used furniture are seldom required during an incident.  However, these gifts are vitally important in supporting the day-to-day work of your local Salvation Army.
