Hattiesburg, Miss. (April 22, 2011)On Thursday, April 21, 2011, The Salvation Army in Hattiesburg moved about the streets of Leakesville, Miss. in Greene County to provide disaster recovery assistance and the light of hope to this rural Mississippi community.
The Salvation Army distributed 100 boxes with non-perishable food and toiletry items. Staff spent the day visiting homes that had been affected by a tornado on April 15.
Recovery Assistance will continue throughout the weekend and next week.
Fifty clean-up kits with mop, broom, gloves, rags, bucket, cleaning chemicals, and garbage bags will be available for those affected by the tornado in Greene County.
Social service case managers will return on Monday, April 25, 2011 to provide for the long term needs of homeowners and residents needing support in the clean up and recovery. Case managers will be available at First United Pentecostal Church in Leakesville from 10:00am-3:00pm. The following assistance will be available:
Recovery Assistance is limited to residents of the declared areas affected by the April 15 storms. Applicants may be asked to provide proof of residence and social security numbers for all residing in their household.
