Partnership donations critical to sustain The Salvation Army’s relief effort
The Salvation Army determinedly continues to transport resources to devastated areas of Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, impacted by one of the worst hurricane seasons in a decade. Each day, new partners of The Salvation Army step-in to assist the relief effort, providing key resources that meet the needs of survivors. We are grateful to our partners for the following:
- NBA player, Carmelo Anthony, sponsored the delivery of 100 pallets of food and water for The Salvation Army’s distribution
- Coca-Cola provided 2 containers for which The Salvation Army could transport resources and supplies
- Feed The Children provided 450,000 meals for The Salvation Army’s local distribution
- FedEx, UPS, and JB Hunt have provided charitable shipping utilized during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria
- CVS provided more than 30 pallets of water and 5 pallets of snacks for The Salvation Army’s distribution
- Stop & Shop donated $25,000 to The Salvation Army’s 2017 Hurricanes’ relief fund
- American Airlines provided 25 flights for disaster staff/volunteer deployments, of which were donated or heavily discounted
“The Salvation Army is truly blessed to have friends and partners that are essential members of the disaster team,” said Michael Orfitelli, Eastern Territorial Coordinator of Emergency Disaster Services. “The donations we receive from our corporate partners are life-forces to the dire need. We are truly grateful for their support.”
Some key updates for Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico & Virgin Islands are (as of 10/13):
- The Salvation Army has a valuable presence in San Juan, Loíza, Fajardo, Humacao, Guayama, Ponce, Arecibo, Mayagüez, Bayamón, Peñuelas, Caguas, St. Thomas, and St. Croix serving meals, water, additional resources, and emotional/spiritual care.
- In total, over 1,000,000 meals, drinks, and snacks have been distributed to those in need since the impact of Hurricane Maria.
- The Salvation Army has distributed almost 26,000 articles of clothing to individuals and families in need affected by Hurricane Maria.
With a permanent footprint in the affected communities, The Salvation Army Disaster Services will continue to provide assistance until the need is met and beyond.
