TAMPA (April 1, 2011) -  The Salvation Army Tampa Command’s mobile canteen unit will serve 300 hot meals to residents of Progress Village on Friday afternoon.

"Many families in this area live in homes that were heavily damaged during the storms on Thursday. Our disaster relief team is humbled to have the opportunity to respond, and to provide a hot meal for these families as they begin to pick up the pieces," said Steve Vick, general manager of The Salvation Army's Tampa Command. “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by yesterday’s damaging storms.”

The meal will be served at approximately 5 p.m. at St. James AME Church, 5202 South 86th Street, Tampa, FL 33619.

On Thursday, March 31, The Salvation Army in St. Petersburg served residents in a near-by mobile home community after the storm, which spawned tornadoes, heavy rains and hurricane-strength wind in the Tampa Bay area.
