The Salvation Army Responds Immediately to Devastating Tornado

Ardmore, OK– The Salvation Army of Ardmore, Oklahoma arrived on the scene at 1:00 AM in the town of Tushka, Oklahoma where a devastating tornado touched down causing tremendous damage and fatalities.  The Salvation Army is coordinating efforts with Emergency Management and other responders to ensure the need is met.

Also on the scene is Captain Rick Swartz from McAlester as well as the mobile feeding unit and trailer from Ardmore.  The second shift is now on the scene to relieve those who worked through the night.   200 persons were served throughout the evening.  Sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and other snacks are being provided.

Major Jeff Daniel is the Incident Commander.  He is assessing the situation but reporting there is quite a bit of damage.  Major Daniel states “we will be on the scene as long as necessary to ensure the needs are met.”   Other Salvation Army teams are being contacted to set up relief teams and bring in additional units if needed.
