Salvation Army Responds to Communities Affected by Tornado in Jefferson City (Cole County), Eldon (Miller County) and Golden City (Barton County), MI

St. Louis, MO - Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services teams have mobilized and are responding to areas impacted by the severe weather and tornado that ripped through Jefferson City, MO,  Eldon, MO and Golden City, MO on Wednesday, May 22nd.   “Our Emergency Disaster canteens arrived after the impact and will continue supporting these communities providing food and supplies.  This day has special significance as it also commemorates the devastating tornado that Joplin, MO 8 years ago.” said Lt. Dan Colonel Jennings, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army. 

A Salvation Army canteen is now in Jefferson City at Thomas Jefferson Middle School with shelter population currently at 100. Emergency shelter operations is also being provided in Eldon, MO. The Salvation Army is providing meals, snacks and drinks to first responders, survivors and clean-up crews along with emotional and spiritual care to anyone in need.

  • The Salvation Army is working in partnership with Operation BBQ Relief, The Red Cross, Boone and Callaway County first responders to better serve the area.
  • A Salvation Army mobile kitchen unit, (canteen) and team arrived from eastern Missouri to support feeding operations as long as needed.
