PHILADELPHIA – The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware’s, Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has activated teams in State College and Lock Haven in response to significant flooding in North Central Pennsylvania that occurred overnight and continues today.

EDS deployed staff and volunteers to Milesburg, to provide food, comfort and care to first responders and evacuees. They are also caring for approximately 100 local residents who are being housed at a temporary shelter at Bald Eagle High School in Milesburg.

The Salvation Army is working together with local and state officials and The American Red Cross to provide support for as long as it is needed. Additional EDS teams are on stand-by and may be deployed to Milesburg if the flooding situation worsens.

“Our EDS staff and volunteers are prepared and committed to work around the clock to care for first responders as well as the local residents displaced by the flood waters in North Central PA,” said Robert Myers, Director of Emergency Disaster Services at The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division.

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) provides basic needs and services to victims of disaster, while also assisting first-responders. Serving 1-2 million Americans in dozens of response efforts nationwide, EDS is often one of the first on the scene to aid emergency response efforts by providing food, shelter, clothing and spiritual comfort.
