Colorado Springs, CO (July 11, 2016) - The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team from El Paso County is deploying at 3:30pm this afternoon to begin feeding first responders for the fire burning in southwest Freemont County, CO. It was reported that around 120 firefighters and crews have been battling to contain the fire. At last report, the fire is burning only on US Forest Service land and no homes are threatened. The fire has burned more than 5,000 acres and is expected to continue to grow today due to strong winds and hot, dry conditions.
The Salvation Army will have crews feeding and hydrating firefighters throughout the day today and tomorrow. Crews have been placed on standby to continue to provide meals and hydration if the firefighting efforts continue into the coming days.

Nederland, CO (July 10, 2016) – In the wake of the Cold Spring Fire, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service (EDS) Team will remain onsite for as long as necessary. EDS canteens remain in area and continue to provide meal service and emotional care at both temporary shelters: Nederland High School and East Boulder Recreation Center.
As the fire spread quickly from 226 to 600 acres today, law enforcement officials evacuated an additional 1000 people, now totaling 2000 who have been forced out of their homes. East Boulder Recreation Center was opened earlier today as a second site to provide temporary shelter to those affected.
The Salvation Army EDS volunteers and staff will continue meal service and is prepared to provide emotional care to those affected as they return to their neighborhoods and learn the fate of their homes and communities.
