The Salvation Army of the Carolinas Monitoring Disturbance in the Atlantic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 27, 2016) – A low pressure area located between Bermuda and the Bahamas has The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina closely monitoring weather conditions and making initial preparations for response along the coast of the Carolinas. In times of disaster, The Salvation Army of the Carolinas has 20 mobile kitchen unit canteens ready to respond to provide hot meals, cold drinks, snacks, and emotional and spiritual care to people affected.

“We have notified all mobile feeding units and corps across North and South Carolina to closely monitor the situation,” said Mike Patterson, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army of North and South Carolina. “The Salvation Army collaborates with emergency management at local, county, and state levels to be prepared if relief efforts are necessary.”

As the 2016 hurricane season begins June 1, The Salvation Army encourages all residents to review their family communication plan and prepare an emergency kit. Helpful information is available on The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services website or at www.ready.gov/hurricanes. The official 2016 South Carolina Hurricane Guide is available for download at www.scemd.org.  Individual and family preparedness information is also available at www.readync.org.

About The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services
“The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program consists of several basic services. And while these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.
