Denver, CO (March 4, 2014) – This afternoon,  The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services team responded to a request for assistance from the Thornton Fire Department.  The Salvation Army team deployed to unincorporated Adams County, where a fire has overtaken a large apartment complex, and will provide first responders and survivors with food and hydration.

During 2013, The Salvation Army’s emergency disaster services teams responded to more than 40 disasters in Colorado.  During these disasters, volunteers gave more than 20,000 hours collectively to provide first responders and survivors with meals, hydration, emotional care and clean-up kits.  Last year, The Salvation Army spent close to $2 million in Colorado alone to meet the immediate needs of those impacted by disasters.  Even as Salvation Army teams begin to prepare for the 2014 wildfire season, they continue to provide disaster recovery support to those impacted by the Black Forest Fire and Colorado Floods.
