Kansas City, MO (April 17, 2012) –The Salvation Army continues to provide support to the community of Wichita, Kansas following Saturday night’s tornado that caused millions of dollars in damage.

Three Salvation Army emergency disaster mobile feeding kitchens (canteens) remain in service, one stationed outside a temporary shelter for survivors, while the two other canteens rove through the devastated areas.

Since Sunday, The Salvation Army has served more than 1,200 meals and 4,000 snacks and cold drinks to first responders, clean-up crews and survivors. The Salvation Army has also provided more than $3,000 in financial assistance to more than 154 individuals to purchase necessities such as clothing, prescriptions and food. Salvation Army case workers are set up to take applications for assistance at the Multi-Service Center at Idlewild Park, 3937 E. Oaklawn Drive in Wichita. Please bring proof of residency (ID, utility bill with an address, etc.).

Giving:
The best way to help tornado survivors and rescue workers is to make a financial donation. Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors. To donate by credit card, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or go to http://donate.salvationarmyusa.org. Checks may be mailed to The Salvation Army, 350 Market, Wichita, KS 67202. During emergencies The Salvation Army cannot guarantee that gifts of household goods or clothing will be sent to the disaster area.
