West Liberty, KY (March 3, 2012) – A Salvation Army Canteen—mobile kitchen—and Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team based in Ashland, Kentucky has already responded to the devastation of yesterday’s storms in Morgan County.
Under the leadership of Major Darrell Kingsbury, the representative responsible for The Salvation Army’s work in the adjacent counties of Greenup, Boyd, and Lawrence, a trained EDS response team acted quickly to coordinate with local Emergency Management officials to assess the needs and put together a quick plan of action to minister to the needs of first-responders and survivors.
“We quickly saw that we were going to need additional support,” said Major Kingsbury. Mobilizing the EDS structure of The Salvation Army, additional units (already standing-by) were activated into service. Another canteen based Danville is already in route and expected to be onsite to serve lunch. Another, specialized feeding unit is traveling from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This unit is smaller and designed to transverse the tight spaces and rough & impaired roadways.
Trained EDS staff and volunteers from six other communities coming into Morgan County, augmenting those already in place.
