Kansas City, MO – The Salvation Army is moving into a new phase of disaster assistance for residents of Harveyville, Kansas, which was devastated by a tornado Tuesday night.
A Salvation Army team of social workers is setting up in Harveyville to begin providing financial aid to tornado survivors to help with immediate needs such as food, clothing, medicine, shelter, bedding and baby products.
“Many families lost everything in the tornado and literally have to start all over. We want to help them begin rebuilding their lives,” said Joyce Schau, social services director for The Salvation Army, Kansas and Western Missouri Division.“
Meanwhile, The Salvation Army continues mass feeding operations in Harveyville. Since Tuesday, Salvation Army emergency disaster services (EDS) teams have provided meals, snacks and cold drinks to nearly 2,000 people, including emergency workers, volunteers and residents. EDS crews will continue to provide three meals a day as well as snacks and drinks to the community throughout the weekend.
The Salvation Army is also providing help to residents of Crawford County, Kansas, where high winds caused damage earlier this week. EDS teams have been serving meals to residents and volunteers assisting with clean-up and repair work.
