Oklahomans Get By With A Little Help From Friends

Moore, OK (May 31, 2013) - When a massive and deadly tornado struck Moore, Okla., on May 20, The Salvation Army responded.  With so many residents displaced and emergency personnel and then volunteers in an area without power, the immediate need for meals was great. The Salvation Army quickly mobilized Emergency Disaster Services Canteens (mobile kitchens) to provide nourishment, hydration, and even emotional and spiritual counseling. Thankfully, many corporations who could help feed the masses joined us. The Salvation Army was proud to partner with Little Caesar’s, Krispy Kreme, Papa John’s, and Chick-fil-A to feed survivors, volunteers, first responders, and other emergency personnel.

Whether they supplied food to Salvation Army mobile feeding units that roved storm-ravaged neighborhoods or parked outside one of our assistance centers, these corporate relationships were essential in their time of need.

For instance Papa John’s mobile pizza kitchen provided more than 7,600 individual pizzas. Some of these relationships, like Papa John’s and Chik-fil-A, were previously established, and the others were a result of The Salvation Army’s reputation for providing service and assistance when and where people need us most.

We wanted to thank these partners--and others--for their rapid response to The Salvation Army.
