The Salvation Army Serves the People of New Jersey in the Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy
Union, NJ (November 6, 2012) - More than a week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into New Jersey, The Salvation Army is still hard at work helping to meet the needs of affected residents. The Salvation Army has been providing meals, drinks, snacks, clothing, blankets, and emotional/spiritual care across the state to those who Sandy left a lasting impact.
As of November 5, 2012 The Salvation Army of New Jersey has reported the following preliminary numbers:
• 55, 865 Meals served.
• 82,226 Snacks served.
• 78,443 Drinks served.
• 1,060 Changes of clothes.
• 1,586 hours of emotional and spiritual care to comfort shelter residents.
• Over 2,000 Blankets delivered, over 6,000 more en route.
• Over 1,000 personal hygiene kits.
• 12 Mobile feeding locations.
• Over 300 Staff and Volunteers supporting disaster relief efforts.
While providing these services, Salvation Army staff and volunteers have had many experiences in New Jersey. Captain Keith Maynor tells about taking a tarp to a home which a tree had fallen through the roof. Upon getting this tarp the family exclaimed, “Thank you and God bless you all for taking care of our home!” He also said that people all over the state have been very thankful and gracious that The Salvation Army has been ready to assist in their time of need.
