The Salvation Army of Georgia Hurricane Michael Disaster Response Update

ALBANY, GEORGIA (October 18, 2018) — The Salvation Army of Georgia continues feeding, hydration and emotional and spiritual care service to those impacted by Hurricane Michael across South Georgia. Two Incident Management Teams (IMT), located in Albany and Bainbridge, Georgia, coordinate Salvation Army disaster relief efforts across the southern part of the Peach State.

As power is steadily restored to main population centers, and in coordination with the Emergency Operations Center in Atlanta, GA and other VOAD agencies, The Salvation Army of Georgia continues to identify new geographical areas in need of service.

The Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief Organization has partnered with The Salvation Army of Georgia to aid in relief services to South Georgia. They will provide cooking services for meals that will be distributed by Salvation Army canteens (mobile feeding units). For convenience of coordinated operations with the IMT at the Albany Corps building, located at 304 West 2nd Ave, Albany, Georgia, the Baptist Disaster Relief operations have set up their cooking operations in a parking lot across the street.

In response to Hurricane Michael, The Salvation Army in Georgia has provided:

  • 21,052 Meals
  • 15,161 Drinks
  • 12,848 Snacks
  • 20 assigned Mobile Feeding Units (Canteens) and 52 in service.
