Sarasota, FL (October 21, 2024) – The Salvation Army continues to provide hot meals to survivors of Hurricane Milton with three canteen teams serving in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. As power has been restored to most of Sarasota, The Salvation Army is beginning to scale down emergency feeding operations in certain locations. The Sarasota Incident Management team is working with the local Salvation Army Corps to begin transferring services back to the local command.
Planning Chief Captain Nick Hutchinson said, “The Salvation Army, just as it was before the storm, will be here in Sarasota helping those in need. With local Corps services beginning to resume, it’s time to start demobilizing some of our emergency units as we transition into the next phase of response.”
To date, the Sarasota operation has served over 45,000 meals and 13,000 snacks to Hurricane Milton survivors. To keep up to date with service locations near you, visit The Salvation Army Hurricane Milton Service Locations.
In addition to food service, The Salvation Army is also providing emotional and spiritual care (ESC) to survivors. ESC specialists visit feeding sites throughout the day to offer a comforting shoulder, listening ear, and word of prayer to those in need.
