Sarasota, FL (October 19, 2024) – The Salvation Army continues to provide hot meals to survivors of Hurricane Milton with seven canteen teams serving in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. As power has been restored to most of Sarasota, The Salvation Army will continue to adapt its operations to best meet the needs of the community. Yesterday, The Salvation Army served outside the Sarasota FEMA assistance center. Due to increased need and crowds at the site, the canteen crew requested an additional 400 meals to serve that afternoon.
Disaster workers Julia and Chaybon said of the experience, “It was pretty busy… Even the FEMA staff helped serve. Moments like that are a beautiful example of humanity and how in hard times we all come together to help those in need.”
To date, the Sarasota operation has served over 38,000 meals and nearly 11,000 snacks to Hurricane Milton survivors.
