St. Louis, MO (April 6, 2023) – The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services has deployed to Bollinger County, MO, to provide aid and support to those affected by a deadly tornado that struck early Wednesday morning on April 4.

Quickly, two mobile canteens from nearby St. Louis and Cape Girardeau were sent to support a Volunteer Reception Center run by AmeriCorps at the Woodland Elementary Center in Marble Hill, MO, where snacks, hydration, and emotional and spiritual support is offered to survivors, first responders, utility workers and volunteers.

Working as a team, The Salvation Army is receiving approximately 150 hot lunch meals from Southern Baptist, operating out of First Baptist Church in Marble Hill, and using the canteens and two utility terrain vehicles to serve at multiple stationary locations and then traveling around the area to feed people working at the affected houses. At dinner time, The Salvation Army returns to the Southern Baptist kitchen to pick up dinner meals and repeat the distribution process.

According to Martin Rueter, Divisional Director, Emergency Disaster Services for The Salvation Army Midland Division, “Our officers and volunteers are available to help anyone in the community who needs assistance. We’re working closely with local officials and other agencies to make sure all needs are met.”

The Salvation Army has been providing support across the Midwest in the past few days, helping communities affected by storm conditions that caused significant damage across a wide area.
