First Baptist Church in Alma, Georgia Distributes Salvation Army, Midwest Food Bank Food Boxes to Hurricane Helene Survivors

The Salvation Army Southern Territory’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team has partnered with Midwest Food Bank for nearly 20 years on a program that provides food to disaster survivors. Non-perishable food products are supplied in co-branded food boxes and kept at the Midwest Food Bank warehouse until they are needed for distribution. The Salvation Army is extraordinarily grateful for this partnership.

In response to Hurricane Helene, more than 1,000 food boxes were delivered to the First Baptist Church of Alma for distribution to survivors in Bacon County, Georgia. Nearly thirty congregation members were on hand to help, with several volunteers staying well beyond the scheduled distribution time to ensure that anyone who came for a food box received one.

While the event was highly successful in delivering much-needed supplies to the Alma community, it also highlighted the resilience of Bacon County residents and their commitment to supporting one another in recovery. Many local survivors not only picked up boxes for themselves but also took extra boxes to distribute to friends, families, neighbors, and even strangers who couldn’t attend. In total, volunteers distributed more than 1,100 food boxes to the community.
