Salvation Army Provides Vital Support Through Emotional and Spiritual Care

Little Rock, AR (April 3, 2023) The ministry of The Salvation Army during times of disaster touches many lives by the simple service of providing meals, hydration, and emotional and spiritual care (ESC). It is one of the most critical, yet emotionally intensive services while working on a disaster. While serving in Little Rock, several crew members recounted many of the stories that they’ve heard - each individual facing the same unimaginable hardship, yet each has their own personal and unique story that requires a unique and personal response from The Salvation Army.

Below are a few excerpts of the stories heard by the various crew members:

After receiving a snack along with a drink, Letty, a grandmother shared, “I heard the sirens, grabbed my grandson, made it to the closet and within seconds, the roof was gone.”

While serving James a cold bottle of Gatorade and a protein bar, he recounted the moment he realized he needed to flee his home, stating that "it's better to have property damage and be alive than be dead with a whole home."

A lady named Shannon had just been offered an additional shift for work. She took her child to daycare and husband to work. Five minutes later their home was destroyed. Her faith in the Lord is very strong and was so very appreciative for the meals and prayer from The Salvation Army.

Toby, who was in his home when the tornado struck, was so gracious of The Salvation Army.  He had an emotional connection with the Army because his father was served in New Guinea.  He was so grateful of the services provided and a hot meal, he wanted to pray for The Salvation Army

Since Friday evening, March 31, The Salvation Army has provided 3,385 meals, 3,020 drinks, 4,061 snacks, and provided 330 ESC contacts.
