Devotion by Major NaKisha Carr, leader of Emotional and Spiritual Care for The Salvation Army's Mayfield, Kentucky response
Mayfield, Kentucky (December 25, 2021)—Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:23
As you rejoice in the birth of our Savior, take a moment and reflect on the promise in His name. Emmanuel. God with us.
God with us. He is with you, me, and the people you meet. God is with us on our best days and on our worst days.
It’s comforting to know that God was with the people during the storms that ripped through western Kentucky on December, 10. He was with them immediately afterward as humanity put her best foot forward. Neighbors helped neighbors. Community members gathered to comfort one another. Volunteers and workers from all over the country stopped what they were doing and came to help.
Please know that help has not stopped. The Salvation Army is still on the ground today in Mayfield, Kentucky. Providing food. Providing care. Reminding people that God is with us, He has walked in our shoes, and in Him, we are not alone.
Emmanuel. God with us.
You have been with the people of Kentucky as well through your prayers and your gifts. You have made a way for them to recover and heal. For that, we are forever grateful. Emmanuel. God with us.
For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
